Event Overview

A weekend dedicated to immersing students in the academic and social life at S&T. This includes visiting departments, meeting faculty, exploring labs, and connecting with other admitted students through Miner Immersion.

Out of State Preview Day is a fantastic opportunity for admitted students to explore everything the university has to offer! Here's a summary of the key details:

  • Lunch with department faculty.

Registration Information

  • Registrations are capped at 50 students, plus their two guests.
  • Confirmation details will be sent after registration.

Details

Mineral Museum - See minerals housed in the museum date back to the 1904 World's Fair when a portion of the minerals on display at the fair were sent to the Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy (now Missouri S&T).

Nuclear Reactor Tour - See one of the few fully functioning nuclear reactors on a college campus.

Glass Blowing Lab - Witness artisans turn molten glass into works of art.

Ceramics Demonstration - See how ceramic materials are processed and engineered to achieve specific properties like strength, heat resistance, and durability, highlighting their use in real-world applications.

Solar Village Tour - As one of our Design Teams, Solar House is a community like no other. Families will get first hand information about what it takes to build a solar house and how currents students have the chance to live there, as well.

Experimental Mine Tour - Students are introduced to real equipment and mining practices at the Experimental Mine, enabling them to develop an understanding of some of the engineering problems that occur in actual mining situations.

Foundry - Metal casting is one of the most important sectors in the manufacturing economy. Take a tour of S&T's foundry and discover the science behind metals and alloys. 

What time do I need to arrive for check-in?

  • Out of State Preview Day begins in the Havener Center with check-in at 9:15 am on Friday, February 28th.

Where can I park?

  • Your follow-up email will include directions to campus from St. Louis and Springfield and will also include parking information.

Can I get a refund if I cancel?

  • Out of State Preview Day registration is non-refundable.

What should I wear?

  • Casual clothing and comfortable shoes are recommended. You will be walking to various locations across campus. Please keep in mind, it is February in Missouri and the weather is unpredictable. Please be prepared to bring cold weather wear.
  • If you plan to visit our Experimental Mine, please make sure you wear closed-toed shoes that you don't mind getting dirty.
