Missouri S&T considers credits in the same manner that local high schools organize their coursework. For example, if a high school considers a course as a "science" credit, Missouri S&T will honor that designation by considering the same course a "science" requirement.

Students transferring to Missouri S&T must meet these minimum requirements. In general, admission to the department in which you intend to pursue a degree – particularly engineering and science departments – requires a minimum 2.5 GPA. The faculties of individual degree programs do reserve the right to use more stringent cumulative GPA requirements when evaluating transfer applications than Missouri S&T's general minimum GPA requirement. Department degree program entrance requirements can be found here.

Missouri S&T accepts college-level non-remedial coursework from all accredited institutions. How credit will be applied to a Missouri S&T degree program is at the discretion of the Registrar's Office.

Minimum Requirements for Admission

  1. Transfer from a regionally accredited college or university.
  2. Submit official transcripts showing statements of academic credits and honorable release.
  3. Possess a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
  4. Completed 24 or more semester hours of college-level credit.

Do you have less than 24 credit hours from your sending institution?

If you have completed fewer than 24 credit hours at your sending institution, you must submit your ACT (or SAT) scores and official high school transcripts to the Office of Admissions. Although you attended another institution after high school, your application will be evaluated according to standards for first-time freshmen.

Do you have at least 24 hours from your sending institution?

If you have completed 24 credit hours or more at your sending institution, high school transcripts and ACT (or SAT) scores are not necessary.

Missouri S&T seeks international students who have a strong probability of succeeding at the university. Admission is selective and based on a combination of secondary school core curriculum (a set of required secondary school classes), ACT and/or SAT composite scores (if available), grade point average (GPA), and class rank percentile. (For non-ranking schools, GPA will be used to evaluate your application).

International students must fulfill the same admission requirements as domestic applicants, but standardized test scores (ACT or SAT) are not required but should be submitted if available. Meeting the minimum requirements, however, does not guarantee admission, nor does it guarantee admission to a particular program. Missouri S&T appreciates well-rounded students and evaluates each application individually.

In addition, international students must fulfill Missouri S&T’s English language proficiency requirement. Minimum English proficiency test score requirements are 79 for TOEFL, 6.0 for IELTS, or 53 for PTE.

If you are admitted based on your academic record, but have not provided proof of meeting the English requirement, you will be required to complete English proficiency testing upon arrival at Missouri S&T, administered by the Intensive English Program (IEP) staff. There are two possible outcomes to this testing:

  • You are approved to enroll in academic classes.
  • You are required to enroll full-time in the IEP.

International students transferring to Missouri S&T must meet these minimum requirements:

  1. You are transferring from a regionally accredited college or university.
  2. You have completed some college-level credit:
    • If you have completed fewer than 24 credit hours at your sending institution, you must submit both your official post-secondary transcript and official secondary school transcripts (and ACT or SAT scores if available) to the Office of Admissions. Although you attended another institution after secondary school, your application will be evaluated according to standards for first-time freshmen.
    • If you have completed 24 or more credit hours at your sending institution, your admission will be based on your grade point average (GPA) and your post-secondary transcript, noting the following:
      • GPA: You must have a cumulative grade point average of 2.50 or higher on a 4.00 scale. In general, admission to the department in which you intend to pursue a degree – particularly engineering and science departments – requires a minimum 2.50 GPA. The faculties of individual degree programs do reserve the right to use more stringent cumulative GPA requirements when evaluating transfer applications than Missouri S&T's general minimum GPA requirement.
      • Transcript: You will need to submit transcripts from each college or university attended. You do not need to provide secondary school transcripts or ACT/SAT.
    • Missouri S&T accepts college-level non-remedial coursework from all accredited institutions. How credit will be applied to a Missouri S&T degree program is at the discretion of the Registrar’s Office. For more information, please see the Transfer Students page and the International Course Equivalency Database.
  3. You must fulfill Missouri S&T’s English language proficiency requirement. Undergraduate transfer applicants can meet this requirement in one of the following ways:
    • Obtain a 79 on TOEFL, 6.0 on IELTS, or 53 on PTE
    • Complete a recognized U.S.-based English as a Second Language (ESL) program

Transfer applicants who have been successfully studying full-time in graded, academic coursework for at least one year in the United States may request that the English language requirement be waived. This decision will be made on an individual basis at the time of admission.

  • You are required to enroll full-time in the IEP

Test Optional

Freshman applicants for fall 2024 have the option of being reviewed with or without test scores.  Choosing an application review without test scores will mean admissibility will be determined by a committee.  The committee will require additional information including extracurricular activities and how the student will contribute to the Missouri S&T community in addition to their high school transcript.  Scholarships, honors participation, and other opportunities may be more limited for choosing to review without test scores.

A student may apply test optional and submit a test score later for scholarship consideration.
