Viral Detectives: Containing Contagions Camp

Come be a viral detective and investigate a mysterious disease. Campers will participate in hands-on activities to explore possibilities for containing a spreading disease.

Registration Details

Date: July 11 - 13, 2023

Eligibility: Rising 6th - 8th graders

Capacity: Space is limited to 30 students

Application Required

Registration Fee:  $50 which includes housing in residence halls, meals, and all course materials.

Registration Cancellation Policy

All camps will have a $50 registration fee (non-refundable, but applied to camp fee). Persons wishing to cancel their registration must do so two weeks (14 full days) prior to the first day of their chosen program. No refunds will be made after this date.

Camp activities

  • Create and build representations of viruses and vaccines
  • Design ways protect yourselves and communities from viral pandemics.
  • Use microscopes to explore the unseen world.
  • Run computer simulations to track an outbreak.
  • Work in teams to stop a virtual pandemic.
  • Put yourself in the shoes of a scientist working to stop an emerging new disease.

Transportation Policy

Participants are responsible for their own transportation to and from Missouri University of Science and Technology in Rolla, Missouri. If you are having challenges arranging transportation, please contact the STEM Center for additional assistance.

Campus Cancellation Policy

Missouri S&T reserves the right to cancel any program in the event of insufficient registrations, severe weather or natural disaster. In the event of cancellation, registrants will be notified immediately via email and phone, and all fees will be returned in full.
